Tuning Rows Chaining (chained row) in Oracle with script

In Oracle, chained rows is potential problem of database performance. The article, “Secrets of Oracle Row Chaining and Migration“, illustrated the concepts of row migration and row chaining along with solution to avoid those happens.

The following script can be used to present the row chaining related information. To use this script, be sure to log on as user with sysdba role.

This script (tested on Oracle 9ir2) offers:

  • number of chained rows by table
  • overall looking of summarized “table fetch continued row”
  • you can refer to the ratio of “table fetch continued row” to “table scan rows gotten” (lesser is better)
